The Friends of the Library for Hood County donated $10,000, with a pledge of $40,000 more, to the Hood County Library Foundation and its subcommittee, the Hood County Library Expansion Committee. The funds are dedicated to future enlargement of the county library.

On Nov. 19, 2015, a sell-out of community supporters celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the Hood County Library’s existence at the “Fifty for Fifty” event Thursday night at Barking Rocks Winery. Entertainment was provided by Janice Horak and band, and poet John Pelham. Local business sponsors of the event were Barking Rocks Winery, Gringo’s Grill, The Bake Shop, Paradise Bistro and Town & Country Floral.

The Friends organization primarily raises funds through the sale of donated books and other media at the Book Store attached to the library at 222 N. Travis St. The group also offers special cultural events to the community. Many public libraries have a Friends of the Library organization.
